OK. There's a lot of vegan hate at the moment after the national peaceful protests. Farmers are sacred in Australia at the moment and I get that it's not their fault to be born into this culture. One argument I came across that sounded logical was that the world needs fertilisers for plants and if monocrops feed the world then we need the animal agriculture.
One, many plant based crops are fed to livestock. Something like 15 times more plants required to create a kilo of meat.
2. Most vegans like animals, they just hate the cruelty, and environmental damage caused by modern animal agriculture.
So what would a new model look like that wasn't inherently cruel? Why not make fertiliser the main goal of animal agriculture? Animals could be raised where they didn't require supplemental feeding. Species and breeds that caused the least environmental damage but produced quality manure would be selected. Moat likely different species to suit different climates. As age doesn't impact manure production they don't need to be killed at a younger age or fattened artificially. Likely some species could produce eggs or milk without needing to kill male offspring or separate calves. They will eventually die and their bodies used for blood and bone or as materials. Antibiotic use to fatten them up wouldn't be required or desired if putting manure on food crops for human consumption and technology could be developed to harvest manure without requiring the intense confinement of battery hens and the like.
There's probably flaws in the idea but not insurmountable surely with the evidence building that we cannot sustain meat eating in to the future at the same rate as the western world currently does.
If we can be happy and healthy without cruelty, why wouldn't we?
